fall 2013 trend alert - orange eyeshadow

so the title of this post is kind of scary. orange eyeshadow?! that just seems like a lot to me but i tested it out and i am beyond obsessed. this look was all over the runway at fashion week and it really is worth checking out.

i picked up this eyeshadow from MAC called rule and i have worn it almost every day since purchasing it. here are the different ways i have been wearing this:

1. as an all over lid color. this is the primary way this was worn on the runways but it is a little bit more of a daring look

2. in the crease with my normal everyday makeup. this color has expanded my everyday make up look into something much warmer and autumnal (i just love that word!)

3. all over my lid with the eyeshadow MAC gleam on top. gleam is a shiny golden pink. the warmth of the burnt orange color mixed with the coolness from gleam leaves an awesome effect on your eyes.

4. in the crease with a smokey brown eye. similar to #2 this has provided a nice change to my normal brown smokey eye.

i feel like i will discover more and more ways to play with this color throughout fall and winter and definitely recommend you picking up a burnt orange color to add to your eyeshadow collection.

let me know in the comments if you would like to see a tutorial on any of these looks!

Not your mothers way to grow long and strong review

Oh well hi hey there HELLO!

That is a lyric from one of my favorite new bands, the mowglis. Y'all definitely need to check them out! I know I have been mia and in all seriousness I don't have an excuse. But I am back and BETTER THAN EVER! so let's do this...

i promised this review a really long time ago but i finally finished the Not Your Mother's Way to Grow Long & Strong Hair shampoo and conditioner. soooo let's talk about it.

as far as growth i didn't really see any. not part of me thinks that this could be due to the fact that my hair was SO DAMAGED from having the absolute shit bleached out of it. (i have since dyed my hair back to my natural color and cut off the dead ends so it is looking much better!) so that my opinion on that could be swayed. with that being said i DEFINITELY feel like my hair was getting stronger when i was using this product and OH MY GOD it smells AMAZING! like i got so many compliments on how good my hair smelt when i was using these.

all in all i really enjoyed these and would absolutely repurchase them. i picked them up at Ulta where at the time they were buy one get one 50% off. YOU can grab them here:

SHAMPOO
CONDITIONER

(they are currently on buy one get one 50% off too as of 10/22/2013)

anyway, i hope this was helpful!

brows 101

heyyy y'all!!!

i hope you are all having a wonderful day!

so let's talk about those caterpillars that live above your eyeballs. filling in your brows is something that can change your look completely and is something i think most people should be doing everyday. in my opinion there is NOTHING worse than seeing a girl with her makeup looking puurrfect and then SHE LITERALLY HAS NO EYEBROWS. i know i'm not the only person out there that feels this way. my friend eva and i have had extensive conversations about this. so with that being said here is how i fill in mine:

hope y'all enjoyed.

summer favorites

yo yo yo y'allll

first things first how amazzzzziinnnggg was NSYNC last night. i could not have been more in love with them when i was younger and last night they reaffirmed how incredible they are. miley cyrus on the other hand needs to get it together. moving on....

am i the only bitch out there who is stoked that summer is ending. i am so over the heat. bring on the boots, sweaters, dark red lips and nails, and most importantly football. it's time for me to throw on a flannel, some leggings, a scarf, and some cowboys boots. with all that being said i thought i would share some of the products that i have reached for the most this summer...

1. L'OREAL Magic B.B. Cream - i think i have used this almost every single day since i purchased it in may and i will continue to use it in the winter months. oily skin girls this is your new best friends. the coverage is really awesome for a b.b. cream and it keeps my skin matte all day. if i want extra coverage i will use my bare minerals over the top of it and even with that additional it is not cakey at all.

2. MAC Prep & Prime Transparent Finishing Powder - OH. MY. GOD. i use this to set my foundation or b.b. cream everyday and let me tell you something SHIT DOES NOT MOVE. its incredible. - Since this is a PRO product i believe it is only available at MAC PRO stores. Check your area to see if you have a PRO store near you!

3. MAC Cremesheen Glass in Fever Isle - i think this was a limited edition lipgloss for summer and it is so beautiful. the perfect coral - pink.

4. Eyeko Skinny Mini Liquid Eyeliner in Black - i haven't been wearing a lot of eyeshadow this summer and i don't like to wear mascara without lining my eyes a little (i think it gives me spider lashes and NOBODY wants to see spider lashes). with this eyeliner (and the help of my trusty maginfying mirror - we have a love/hate relationship) i am able to line my lash line without it looking like i lined my lash line. i don't know if that makes sense or not but whether you are looking for a thin line or a thick line this eyeliner does the trick!

5. TARTE Amazonian Clay 12- Hour Blush in Magic - i am a big fan of coral colors in the summertime. whether it is on my nails, my clothes, my lips, or my cheeks i am rocking the color for the entire season. this blush is the perfect coral!

6. NARS Bronzer in Laguna - this is a cult beauty product. if you haven't tried it go pick it up. it really is worth the hype and it will last you forever.

7. Benefit WATTS Up Highlighter - when i first bought this in january i almost returned it (it is a little too golden for my taste). i am so glad i kept it cause it is so beautiful! the perfect thing for a natural summer glow.

8. Revlon Coloburst Lip Butter in Sweet Tart - the perfect bright summery pink. and since it is a lip butter it's super nourishing for your lips. thanks pinterest for this find!

9. American Apparel Neon Nail Lacquer in Neon Red - don't listen to the name of this nail polish it is very much a bright coral. if you follow me on instagram then you have seen this color since it is my go to nail polish in the summertime. whenever i wear it i have a tendency to paint my ring finger silver glitter and it is ADORABLE!

10. Dress from Trends We Love - I am so freaking beyond obsessed with this dress. i have worn it so much this summer and i get compliments on it every time i do. make sure you check out their website and facebook page, they have the most amazing clothes at such reasonable prices!

birchbox smokey eye kit - does it work?

hey there hi there ho there

i know i have been mia for like over two weeks! i am so so sorry! but let me tell you why...

i am involved in a charity here called BvB Dallas which helps raise money for Alzheimer's research. in ten weeks we raised over $350,000! how amazinggg is that?! our big event, a powderpuff football game, was on saturday so i have been crazy busy preparing for that.

so now that i have told you where i have been let's talk about this little beauty i recently received in my birchbox.  this perfect smokey eye kit is from coastal scents, a brand i am not too familiar with but since it seemed pretty foolproof i decided to test it out...

it worked! this little gem is fantastic. while there is no full size version of this available on the birchbox site they have two giant palettes similar to the BH palettes for $39 each here

here is their full site, coastal scents, so check out some of their other products and let me know what you think!

as always, i hope you are having a FANTASMIC DAYYY

pinterest debunked #1 - coconut oil used to shave?!

it's friday, friday, gotta get down on fridayyyy

as stated in last weeks blog, i sing this in my head all day every friday.

anyway i was going through my pins yesterday and found one that said i could use coconut oil to shave...WHAT?!?!?!

if you know me you know that i am so beyond obsessed with coconut oil. it is such an amazing product that can be used for so many things. (who doesn't love a good multi-tasking product) so when i saw this i knew i had to try it. y'all THIS SHIT WORKS! omg its so awesome. i have been switching off between using conditioner and the razors that have the shaving lotion already on them for the last couple of years and after trying this i can say i will ONLY be using coconut oil to shave from now on. not only did i get a better and closer shave but my legs feel so much more moisturized. i am also prone to getting really bad razor burn and while the leg that i shaved using conditioner is itching a lot, the other leg feels fine.

i have to say, pinterest definitely got it right this time.

go crazaayyy tonight y'all

MAC Face & Body Foundation - First Impression

hi y'all!

hope you are all having a great sunday funday!

while i was in florida i picked up MAC Face & Body Foundation which i have been wanting to try for a while. i thought this was the perfect time to do my first first impression blog post so here we go...

a little background - i used to use mac foundation everyday. one day someone said to me that that could be part of the reason i was having really bad skin problems, so i stopped using it completely and my skin got better. since then i haven't used a foundation or powder from them.

this foundation goes on really light and feels amazing on the skin. even though it feels really light the coverage payoff is incredible, it covered almost all of the discoloration on my skin. MAC also claims that it is water resistant which i found to be true. the stuff did not move on my face at all throughout the day. i genuinely can say that i really love this product and I don't feel like it will break me out at all.

check out the full review with updates throughout the day here:

the 4 oz bottle of this retails for $33 and the 1.7 oz bottle retails for $27.

I have used this since then multiple times and I am still LOVING IT!!

have y'all ever tried this? i highly recommend it if you haven't, especially if you live in a really hot area, like texas.

see y'all on the flip side! (yeah i went there)

get ready with me | my everyday makeup

what's cookin good lookin??

today was my first day back at work after a week long vaca and it was RUFF. im exhausted and so behind and blah blah blah.

with that being said i thought i wanted to share my everyday natural makeup routine situation thing with you.

so watch it yo:

did you love it? do you wanna rock it? just kiddingggggg

what are you favorite everyday makeup items? let me know so i can try them out!

also, i have decided to make every wednesday "what are you talking about wednesday?" what does this mean you might ask?! it means that every single wednesday you can expect either a blog post or a video about a product that i'm loving, or something i didn't know about until i got super into beauty products that i want to share with you bitches or i don't know! the possibilities are endless!

STORY TIME! (this is relevant, i promise) my friend erin and i were talking the other day about pinterest, where we very literally repin everything the other one pins because we are the sames person. (seriously, it's freaky!) i asked erin, "does anyone actually look back at this shit they pinned and try this stuff?" she said, "probably not." THIS IS INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE Y'ALL! i have almost 5,000 pins on pinterest and i VERY RARELY go back and look at the stuff that i thought was oh so importante. i know what you are now thinking, "LJ you are on a tangent and rambling about nothing, GET YO SHIT TOGETHAAAAA." but i promise you there is a point and eventually i will get there. jkjk so i decided that at least three times a month, i am going to do a pinterest debunked post and or video. im going to test out some beauty or fashion, or perhaps food, related thing that i pinned and let you know whether or not it worked as well as the hilarity that ensued when i attempted to recreate this activity. LONGEST TANGENT EVER DONE.

follow my social media shit because i am becoming quite the social media whore. (not that im embarrassed about it or anything...)

this is my face on a book
this is where i tell you what i am doing every second. chirp chirp
this is where i post embarrassing videos of myself.
and finally my favorite...

rimmel showoff lip lacquer

I have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of these in the U.S. as there has been some serious buzz around these from beauty bloggers across the pond so when I found them at my neighborhood Walgreens I had to pick them up. I wasn't that impressed with the color selections so I grabbed the only color I thought I would really love, stellar. I think I am going to have to go grab a couple more because these are completely amazing!!

I don't love the packaging and a lot of product comes out on the applicator (like a ton of product...it took me a couple of times to get used to putting just the right amount on my lips) but the color payoff is incredible.

They run at around $4 each and are completely worth it and more! It is a cross between a lipstick and a lipgloss. Stellar is a bright coralish red and if you know me, you know how much I love bright lipstick so this is perfect.

I did go pick up some more and trust me try these out. the color it appears in the tube is not what it comes out on your lips.

Have y'all tried these out yet?! What do you think of them?!

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer Review

hi y'all!

i hope you all had a wonderful weekend. i was in austin for the weekend for one of my dearest friend's bachelorette parties. we rented a house on the lake and it was sooo much fun! when they talked to the owners of the house to rent it they told us that we would not be able to jump off the dock into the water which they also said was really low. little did we know that there was NO WATER. check it:

we rented a boat on saturday on a different part of the lake where there was actually water and i had a blast. i can't wait for Bonnie's wedding!!

here is a pic of me with the beautiful bachelorette! i did her hair and makeup and used this amazing YSL palette on her eyes. the colors were beautiful and so pigmented.

Onto what this post is really about. i picked up the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer a couple of weeks ago and it is AMAZING! it gives fantastic coverage and doesn't crease at all no matter how long it has been on your face. Check out my full review here:

i definitely recommend that y'all go grab this product. i was truly blown away by it. this is definitely a new found holy grail product for me.

what are y'alls favorite concealers? have you tried this out?

damaged hair?

happy friday y'alllll!

jk it's thursday butttttt i have tomorrow off. i'm going to austin for one of my favorite people's bachelorette party and i am so pumped to get out of Dallas for the weekend.

today i wanted to talk to y'all about how i take care of my super damaged ombre hair. let's start this off with my hair story...

my whole life i had really long, really curly, really thick, dark hair and i loved it. my mom would never let me dye it, even when everyone else i knew was rocking those terrible highlights in 7th grade. (i am so glad that she never let me get highlights...and trust me i begged and begged) in 10th grade i donated my hair for the first time to locks of love and it grew back completely (down to my tush) in two years. i kept it long for the next couple of years and donated it again my junior year of college and IT DID NOT GROW BACK! i chopped it to my shoulders and it just will not grow back. don't get me wrong it has grown but not at the rate that it used to.

side note - do y'all have any tips or tricks for growing your hair? i take biotin and use mane and tale (love that stuff!) but is there anything else y'all know about?! im dying for my hair back over hereee

anyway, last year, after stalking every pinterest picture ever, i decided to ombre my hair. i went to the hair dresser i had been going to for a while and after five hours in that salon let me tell y'all...SHE COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY HAIR! it was not ombre and it was not what i asked for. i had platinum blonde highlights mixed in with my dark brown hair. IT WAS NOT CUTE.

cut to a couple months and a couple more bad dye jobs later i found my hairdresser, Heather, and i freaking love her! i will NEVER let anyone touch my hair again. she is amazing!

long story short...my hair does not like all the shit i have put it through and it is not happy with me. i know that there have to be some other people out there who have gone through what i went through and are trying to nurse their hair back to life. that being said check the video for some of my favorite products...

are there any products y'all are loving on your hair?

was this helpful for you? let me know in the comments below if you would like to hear more about this.

perfect summer bronze makeup

happy tuesday y'all!

it has been so gloomy and rainy here and for the last week or so it has seemed like everything has been going wrong for me and a lot of my friends. my friend, Greer, told me that Mercury is in retrograde which is apparently throwing everything off. if that is true then i'm gonna need Mercury to get its shit together cause i'm pretty over this.

anywayyy it's been summer here in the great state of Texas for a while but for some of y'all July 4th is the official sign that sweet summertime is once again upon us. (at least that is what it felt like when i was growing up in NY) so whether or not summer just started for you, i thought it would be cool to make a summer makeup look that is perfect for any occasion. this natural makeup look can be worn to work with a neutral lip (like i used in the tutorial) or for a night out on the town (yeah i just said that) by adding a bright lip and some fake lashes.

i did all of this eyeshadow and liner using one thing, the Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.

if you don't have this product let me tell you it is COMPLETELY worth the hype and the money (not too expensive at $50)! the colors are amazing. they are super pigmented so you don't need a lot of product which means that it is going to last you for a really long time. seriously, i use this all the time, have had it for over a year and am not hitting pan on ANY OF THE COLORS! the brush that comes with it is two sided. one side is a flat shader brush and one side is a blending brush. no joke, i think i like the blending brush better than a MAC 217. (insert serious GASPPPP here)

Okay now that my little mini review/rant is OVAAAAA check out the tutorial:

What do y'all think about this look for summertime? Did you try it?! How did you rock it?

Are there any palettes in your life that you could not live without?! let me know in the comments below! i am always on the hunt for new products (obvi).

katy perry tutorial

happy sunday y'all!

i watched the katy perry movie the other day and i couldn't help but fall in love with all of her makeup and costumes! i started looking up some of her makeup looks on the internet and found this amazing look of hers with a cream and blue eye, MEGA lashes, and a bright pink lip and i knew i had to do a tutorial.

i got this lipstick, MAC Show Orchid, for free with MAC's back to MAC program. back to MAC is a recycling program that MAC does. if you bring back 6 empty MAC containers they will give you a free lipstick. I love this program and utilize it whenever i can!

new finds

I just happened to wander into Ulta the other day...

Okay y'all know I didn't just wander into Ulta, I went there with the full intention of picking up some items on my list of things to try list. BUT there are two things that were not on my list that are so awesome I had to share them with y'all..

Formula 10.0.6 is a new brand to me. I wanted to grab the Pores Be Pure Skin-Clarifying Mud Mask because I saw it on Pinterest and I am always on the look out for a product that will help clean my pores. The brand was on sale for buy one get one half off so I also grabbed the So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser (it is not actually a cleanser but is more of a toner type product). Let me tell y'all...

I LOVE THESE PRODUCTS!

The Pores Be Pure mask (I picked up the strawberry scent) is a skin clarifying mud mask and packs a big bang for the buck. The scent isn't too powerful and the product isn't too strong. I feel comfortable using it multiple times a week on my skin. I genuinelly feel like after using this product my skin looks so much better. My pores have gotten significantly smaller since I started using it and I feel confident that it will stay in my skin care routine. I have been rotating it in out and with my Glam Glow.

The So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser is essentially a toner although I bet you could use it as a cleansing water and it would work perfectly. I have been using it after I wash my face with an exfoliating cotton round. Now this product does contain Salicylic Acid and is meant to be used as an acne treatment so be prepared when using it that it is quite a strong product and it might not be meant for your skin type.

The Pores Be Pure Mask comes in a 3.4 ounce bottle and is $5.99. It can be purchased here:

Pores Be Pure Mask

The So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser comes in a 6.75 ounce bottle and is also $5.99. It can be purchased here:

So Totally Clean Deep Pore Cleanser

I hope y'all love these products as much as I do! Have any of you tried any of their other products? Do you love them or hate them?

As always, I hope y'all are having a great day!

smokey eye tutorial

happy monday y'all!

i wanted to share my favorite tips and tricks for achieving the best smokey eye! cause a smokey eye can go way wrong if you're not careful. (i'm looking at you divas who are not blending out that eyeshadow). there is a fine line between hooker and hottie.

i thought a better way to do makeup tutorials would be through youtube videos as opposed to step by step pictures. plus i'm way funnier in person than i am in writing.

here is the finished look:

and here is the video:

for other looks try switching out the blacks for browns or golden colors. these tips could literally work for any color combo! get creative and GO CRAZY! cause tonight we are young. (sorry had to go there) but for real now is the time to be experimenting with makeup...that purple limecrime lipstick will not be appropriate foreverrrrr and once you get out into the real world daily makeup can get pretty BORINGGGGGG.

i hope y'all enjoyed the tutorial and look for more of these in the future. i am currently working on my necessities to make a bright lip look great and last all night so check back for that later in the week!

what are your favorite trick for smokey eyes? how did these tips work for you?

the best top coat ever

okay y'all let me tell you about my newest discovery...

Seche Vite Top Coat

I can't even believe how amazing this top coat is. seriously, my nails are dry almost immediately after painting them.

I do normally do my nails probably twice a week, mostly because I am OCD and I can't stand looking at even the slightest chipped nail while I am typing all day at work. But this keeps my nails looking fresh longer than any other top coat.

You can pick this up at Sally Beauty or Ulta. It was significantly cheaper at Sally Beauty, especially when you are a member of their beauty club.

Here is this weeks manicure:

I am so in love with this color from OPI. it's called Suzi's Hungary Again and when i saw it i knew it was going to be my go to color this summer!

What's y'alls favorite summer nail color? Have you tried this top coat? Are there any other top coats that are worth trying?

I feel like I can safely say that this product is WORTH THE HYPE!

makeup removing redefined

Okay y'all, if there is one thing I have learned over the past couple of years it is this: STOP WASTING MONEY ON MAKE UP REMOVER! Seriously, STOP!!! I am about to tell you something that literally changed my life. Oils will remove your make up better than those pricey make up removers and instead of stripping your face of oils they act as an additional moisturizer. You can also use them for more than one thing. I am all about multi-tasking products and this is one of my absolute favorite tricks!

There are many oils that you can use for this but my personal favorite is Coconut Oil. Olive Oil and Castor Oil are two other options but coconut oil is my favorite. I buy my coconut oil from Whole Foods, it costs less than $7 and lasts me about a year, but you can get it at any natural food store. I literally just rub the oil all over my face and then wash it off with my cleanser (or whichever one I happen to be using this month). It works amazing and since it is all natural I don't feel bad about using it on my eyes or my face.

Other things I use coconut oil for include, my hair, as a body moisturizer, cooking…the list goes on and on. This stuff is amazing! About once every two weeks I use it instead of my overnight moisturizer. But more about that later...
